چکیده

The common gull (Larus canus) and the black-headed ridibundus) are waterbird species in Lithuania. Until now, composition of Sarcocystis these birds was unknown. current study aimed to identify spp. by morphological examination sarcocysts found muscle tissues DNA sequence analysis. Between 2011 2019, leg muscles 42 gulls 63 were tested for Based on methylene blue staining squashed samples, detected six (14.3%) (9.5%). Under a light microscope, one type microcyst observed. Sarcocysts thread-like (2860–8250 × 40–180 μm) had smooth thin (0.8–1.4 cyst wall, while bradyzoites banana-shaped 5.0–9.2 1.3–2.4 μm size. sequencing complete ITS1 showed presence S. columbae, halieti wobeseri columbae gull. highest intraspecific genetic variability established halieti, which is characterized wide host range. This considered be pathogenic, therefore further histopathological various organs needed.

Analysis of body mass changes in the Black-Headed Gull (Larus ridibundus) during the winter

During the autumn migration of many waterfowls, body mass is lowest upon arrival at the wintering area and gradually increases during the winter. Consequently, body mass is highest before the spring migration. We studied the pattern of body mass changes in the Black-Headed Gull (Larus ridibundus) from December 2010 to December 2016 in the Shinhama area of Chiba, Japan. Based on 327 captured ani...

Maternal androgens in black-headed gull (Larus ridibundus) eggs: consequences for chick development.

We tested the hypothesis that mother birds counterbalance the negative effects of hatching asynchrony for later-hatched chicks by increasing the yolk androgen concentrations in consecutive eggs of their clutch. In doing so, they may adaptively tune each offspring's competitive ability and, thus, growth and survival. However, evidence in support of this hypothesis is contradictory. The yolk conc...

Exploring plasticity in the wild: laying date-temperature reaction norms in the common gull Larus canus.

Exploration of causal components of plasticity is important for insight into evolutionary dynamics and an organism's ability to respond to climate change. Among individuals, variation in plasticity can be due to genotype-environment interaction (GxE) or a result from environmental effects associated with an individual. We investigated plasticity for laying date in the common gulls Larus canus, ...

Hybridization of glaucous gull (Larus hyperboreus) and herring gull (Larus argentatus) in Iceland: mitochondrial and microsatellite data.

Large white-headed gulls provide an interesting group of birds for studies of hybridization. The group is composed of 20 species of recent origin, often with weak reproductive barriers. Here we report the results from a study on the glaucous gull Larus hyperboreus, an Arctic species which has been breeding in Iceland for centuries, and the herring gull Larus argentatus which has a wide distribu...

Heavy Metal Concentrations in the Tissues of the Black-headed Gull Larus Ridibundus L. Nesting in the Dam Reservoir in South-western Poland

Concentrations of heavy metals (lead, cadmium and copper) were measured in several tissues (pectoral muscle, liver, kidney, lung, femur, brain and feather) of the fledglings and adults of black-headed gull Larus ridibundus L. collected in breeding colony (c. 2000 pairs) in south-western Poland (Mietkowski Reservoir; 980 ha). Fourteen birds (5 fledglings and 9 adults) were collected shortly afte...
